Monterey Park Seeks Volunteers for City’s 100th Birthday Events
Help celebrate the city’s centennial by volunteering at fun and festive events planned for 2016 and beyond. We are seeking community volunteers to hel p staff and organize some of the many special events planned in 2016 that will celebrate the city’s 100th birthday.

In preparation for this 100th anniversary, the city has organized a Centennial Committee to organize, plan and fund events. The city is seeking individuals who may be capable of undertaking such tasks and staffing events. The Events include:


• The Lunar New Year Celebration
• Cherry Blossom Festival
• Earth Day Bike Ride
• Cinco de Mayo
• Centennial monument and time capsule
• Library Foundation Gala
• Lions Club Coming Home Breakfast
• Summer concerts
• Fourth of July
• Geranium Festival
• A celebration dinner
• 5K run/walk
• Veterans Day
• Holiday Snow Village
• Rose Parade Float

Persons who are interested in joining the committee and being a part of these extraordinary events can contact Recreation and Community Services at MPK100@montereypark.ca.gov or 626-307-1388. Monthly committee meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m, at Garvey Ranch Park in the activity room near the observatory.

Seeking Volunteers to Assist with Property Maintenance
The City of Monterey Park Code Enforcement Division is seeking
individuals who have a strong pride in- and are willing to volunteer to
improve- the community. The Code Enforcement Division is inviting
all interested residents to participate in the Code Enforcement
Volunteer Program.
The Code Enforcement Volunteer Program’s mission is to provide
assistance and support to Code Enforcement personnel in performing
a wide range of routine, non-technical and non-hazardous functions
in the field and office.
The duties of a volunteer include the monitoring and removal of
illegal signs, removal of items in city streets, field surveys, monitoring
existing code violations, distribution of educational literature,
documenting evidence (photography), typing, filing, mailing,
copying and other duties as assigned. All duties will be under the
direct supervision of a code enforcement officer.
Volunteer qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age; general
office knowledge; use of office machinery and equipment, display
abilities and qualities of working under difficult situations, willingness
to work independently with minimal supervision, good public
relations skills, possess a valid California Driver’s License, ability to
work well with staff, volunteers and residents of the community. All
volunteers are subject to a background check and interview prior to
acceptance. A one-year commitment is required, working a minimum
of at least 8 or more hours a month.
Training will be provided on an on-going basis regarding field
investigations, techniques, routine office functions and Department
policies and procedures. An initial two-hour orientation class on city
and department operations will be provided and is mandatory.
This division also offers a Code Enforcement Ride-A-Long
Program which is open to any resident interested in obtaining
firsthand experience relative to how code enforcement officers
effectively handle code violations. Typical violations include:
property maintenance, land use, zoning, housing and building issues,
business license violations and other public nuisance investigations.

Monterey Park City Clerk's office

The Monterey Park City Clerk is an administrative position responsible to the electorate. As a part time elected official, the city clerk is responsible for establishing policies, guidelines and procedures for the operation of the city clerk's office. The city clerk serves as the filing officer for candidate campaign finance statements and conflict of interest statements by elected, appointed officials and key city employees. The city clerk is also supported by a full-time staff consisting of a deputy city clerk, secretary, elections clerk, and minutes clerk.

Responsibilities
The city clerk's office is responsible for maintaining an accurate record of city council proceedings, maintaining official city records and conducting municipal elections in accordance with federal and state laws. The city clerk administers the oath of office to all elected officials, city commissioners and key employees.
