Volunteer At Some Great Events in 2016!!
Help celebrate the city’s centennial by volunteering at fun and festive events planned for 2016 and beyond

Monterey Park, Calif. December 10, 2015 – The City of Monterey Park is seeking community volunteers to help staff and organize some of the many special events planned in 2016 that will celebrate the city’s 100th birthday. Some of the events that are in the works to celebrate this historic milestone are:


• The Lunar New Year Celebration
• Cherry Blossom Festival
• Earth Day Bike Ride
• Cinco de Mayo
• Centennial monument and time capsule
• Library Foundation Gala
• Lions Club Coming Home Breakfast
• Summer concerts
• Fourth of July
• Geranium Festival
• A celebration dinner
• 5K run/walk
• Veterans Day
• Holiday Snow Village
• Rose Parade Float

In preparation for this 100th anniversary, the city has organized a Centennial Committee to organize, plan and fund events. The city is seeking individuals who may be capable of undertaking such tasks and staffing events.

Persons who are interested in joining the committee and being a part of these extraordinary events can contact Recreation and Community Services at MPK100@montereypark.ca.gov or 626-307-1388. Monthly committee meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m, at Garvey Ranch Park in the activity room near the observatory. Garvey Ranch Park is located 781 S. Orange Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755. For more information visit www.MontereyPark.ca.gov.

RECREATION LEADER PART-TIME
$10.50 - $13.43 Hourly

Under direct supervision of a Program Coordinator or his/her designee the recreation leader (part-time) is in charge of several aspects of involvement pertaining to most of t he events and recreational activities in Monterey Park. Some of these activities include:

Supervises recreation areas, picnic facilities, playgrounds, gymnasiums, community centers, pools, senior center, meeting rooms and/or park areas; leads sports, arts & crafts, games and play activities for youth and/or adults; assures the safety of the participants; promotes physical and mental health.

Instructs, coaches, supervises, officiates and/or leads sports activities, games, field trips, contests, arts and crafts, and special events in parks, playgrounds and child care settings.

Assures the safety of participants through the proper use of equipment, safety practices and procedures and enforcement of rules and regulations; performs maintenance of facilities; sets up and takes down tables, chairs and equipment for recreational classes, programs and special events; prepares written reports including incident and accident reports.

Residents are being asked to provide input on wh at park and recreation facilities they would like to see in the community. So if you think the city needs more playgrounds or tennis courts; or an improved aquatics center or whatever you think the community is missing this is a perfect opportunity to provide input to the planning process. At the end of the two hour session, a prioritized list of facilities will be created and sent to Los Angeles County for possible future funding.

Cascades Waterfall is Done!

Monterey Park to Celebrate Rededication of Iconic Cascades Waterfall

City to commemorate the renovation of one of its best known landmarks at Cascades Park on Friday, October 23

The Monterey Park Cascades Waterfall will be the centerpiece of a rededication ceremony and festival following a series of recent improvements including new colored lighting, steps and landings, upgraded irrigation, a new flag pole and upgraded mechanical and electrical systems funded by a grant from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District.

The Friday, October 23 activities will kick off at 5 p.m. at Atlantic Boulevard and El Portal Place with a family friendly festival featuring jack-o’-lantern decorating, a Dia de los Muertos face painting booth, a magician, cake walk, the library’s “Book Witch,” food, games, and music. At approximately 6:15 p.m., local dignitaries will “flip the switch” to unveil the new multi-color lighting of the waterfall.
