About us

Barnes Park measures approximately 17 acres, and is located at the heart of Monterey Park. This park features a community center, basketball gym, amphitheater/memorial bowl, sheltered picnic pavilion, Olympic size pool, lighted softball field, tennis courts, and childrens' play area. Barnes Park is within walking distance of city hall, fire department and the library. Picnic facilities are available for reservations on weekends only.

'70s Disco Summer Concert feat. The Disco Kings
We may be in a drought, but you’ll be taken by storm by band leader, Leapin’ Leon Thunder, who was born in Virginia but raised in Southern California. This singing sensation has a fun, super-sized ego , sex appeal and hips that generate enough thrust to make Tom Jones blush! According to Leon, guys want to be like him and ladies want to be with him. Celebrate July 4th with Food, Music and Fireworks @ Barnes park!
Monterey Park's annual Independence Day celebration at Barnes Park features entertainment, food, fun and a fireworks show for the entire family. Patriotic activities include children's crafts, music b y the Monterey Park Concert Band and the introduction of new citizens and military families. New US citizens and military families are encouraged to contact the recreation department via email or 626-307-1388 to be included in the program.

2016 Entertainment Schedule
3:00 p.m. Food, craft and game booths open.
4:00 p.m. Monterey Park Concert Band.
5:15 p.m. Recognition of new citizens, military families and dignitaries.
6:30 p.m. Live musical entertainment by Two Days in Cat Time.
7:15 p.m. Live musical entertainment by Doo Wah Riders.
9:00 p.m. Fireworks show. Ramona Ave. and other surrounding streets will be closed at approximately 5 p.m. until the end of the fireworks show.

'80s Summer Concert feat. Video Star
Throw on your acid washed jeans, Members Only jacket and pop that collar on your neon polo and get ready to dance to the raddest music of the '80s.

Monterey Park’s 100th birthday party celebration continues with a series of fun summer concerts. First up is a performance by '80s cover band Video Star on Saturday, June 18 at the Barnes Park Amphitheater performing totally awesome new wave and rock hits such as “Rock this Town,” “I Just Can’t Get Enough,” “Tainted Love,” “Always Something There to Remind Me,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “What I Like About You,” and “Living on a Prayer.”

Gates open at 6:30 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children 13 & under, with the grass area above the amphitheater $1 for adults and free for children 13 & under. Beer, wine & margaritas will be for sale in the amphitheater only, and only for adults who show proper identification. Non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will also be available.

Earth Day Festival & Centennial Bike Ride
The City of Monterey Park Environmental Commission is proud to announce the 2016 Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s event celebrates the Monterey Park’s 1 00th birthday with the Centennial Bike Ride sponsored by Dahon, Chamber of Commerce and the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (SGVMD).

Participants of the family friendly bike ride are encouraged to dress in 1900s clothing. At the completion of the ride, the Chamber of Commerce will award a prize to the bike rider with the most innovative costume.

Please note that children must be 10 years or older to participate in the bike ride. All riders who are under 16 years of age must wear a helmet and be accompanied by an adult Bike enthusiasts can choose between a hill challenge ride that starts at 8 a.m. or a family-friendly ride that starts at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged. 34th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration
The City of Monterey Park’s Cinco de Mayo Committee extends an invitation to the community to attend the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at Barnes Park. This festive day features a wide variety of en tertainers including folklorico dancers, mariachis and other traditional Mexican music.

An essential part of the Cinco De Mayo event is the support for surrounding Businesses, Community leaders, and residents. One of the highlights of the day is the raffle drawing, with prizes ranging from free car washes to piñatas, and free dinners at local restaurants. A second drawing will be made for the popular money hat.

This event is possible due to the work of dedicated volunteers and the generous support of the community. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact the Recreation Department at 626-307-1388.

19th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival
Planned and coordinated by community volunteers, the Cherry Blossom Festival strives to provide a cultural arts event that offers a forum for learning, entertainment, fun, and support of community.

The 2016 Cherry Blossom Festival Committee and the City of Monterey Park are pleased to present the 19th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival on April 16-17, 2016. Entry to the festival is free to the public.

Event Festivities

Take the time to see, hear, and taste a bit of the Japanese and Japanese American culture through a first-hand experience of watching traditional Japanese dancing, hearing the resounding beats of the taiko drums, observing the mastery and various skills of martial arts, participating in the ancient art of the tea ceremony, or buying hand-made crafts or food with an Asian flair. Other highlights of the festival include games and crafts for children, and numerous cultural displays.
